A brand-new version of Dillien is here

Every day, Dillien is used in complex due diligence processes spanning more than 20 countries across five continents. Now we're taking a big step forward. Since the start of 2024, we've worked behind closed doors on an entirely new version, built from the ground up.

The result is a data room with more flexibility, new functionality, and a foundation that paves the way for what we're most excited to show in the time ahead — a data room that doesn't just store documents, but works alongside you throughout the entire transaction.

We sat down with CTO Elin Schanke Funnemark to talk about what's new — and where things are headed.

Elin, you've rebuilt Dillien from the ground up. Why, and why now?

The first version took us far, and it held up across everything from small transactions to the most complex ones. At the same time, we've seen clearly where the market is heading, and what it takes to stay ahead.

To build what we really want, we needed a new and even more solid foundation. So instead of continuing to polish the old one, we made the big decision: to build everything from scratch. It gives us flexibility, scalability, and speed in an entirely different class — and a foundation we can keep building on for years to come.

What will customers notice first?

We've made a major visual upgrade — the interface is cleaner and navigation more intuitive. At the same time, Dillien is still Dillien: you'll recognise it from the first click, with no need to relearn the platform. The familiar, just better.

Dillien's updated interface delivers a cleaner, more intuitive data room experience, making document management and collaboration faster and more efficient across the entire transaction process.

But the biggest difference lies beneath the surface: now everything connects. A due diligence process is more than just files — it's people, questions, tasks, and documents that belong closely together, so the data room should work the same way. Now you can reference a file, a person, a folder, or a question directly, right where you're working. And when you move something, the references follow automatically.

You've also done a lot with structure and search.

The goal of the new version is for the structure to follow you and the transaction, not the other way around. You can now reorganise the entire data room and all its content as the process evolves — without anything breaking along the way. The references update themselves.

And search now goes straight into the content, not just file names. Get a hit in a hundred-page agreement, and the document opens at exactly that spot, with the match highlighted. And this is just the beginning: semantic search is next, letting you find what you're looking for based on meaning, not just exact wording.

Dillien provides a powerful search functionality that surfaces direct matches across both topics and document content, enabling users to instantly locate relevant requests and uploaded files anywhere within the data room.

And collaboration within the room itself?

Here we've lifted the entire experience. Access management gives precise control over roles, permissions, and visibility — built for complex processes with many parties, advisors, and workstreams that need to be kept separate. And both the buy side and the sell side can now use project management and task lists right in the data room. Already have your lists in Excel? Import them directly and you're up and running.

Granular permission management at the folder, document, and user level. Administrators control view and download rights independently for each party in the data room.

What are you most looking forward to?

That the foundation we've now laid lets us build things we've wanted for a long time — and roll them out fast. Automatic placement of documents within the structure. The ability to ask the data room specific questions and get answers with references to the right documents and points. AI-assisted review for both the buy side and the sell side. These are things the new platform finally makes possible — and from here, new features will keep coming at pace.

In the next article, we'll talk with CCO Håkon Hultman Tømte about what the new version means for lawyers, real estate brokers, advisors, and transaction teams — and about the integrations on the way.
